I am in no way a professional writer, hell, I may not even be a GOOD writer, but I've decided to give this "blog" thing a go. Here you will find a mix of my general ramblings, some product reviews, & the occasional baking related post.
For anyone that doesn't know me, my name is Emily. I am a wife, & mama to two wonderful girls, Holly & Penny. When I am not on maternity leave, I work part-time as a supervisor at a grocery store (no fancy job here). We work my shifts around my husband's Monday to Friday job, so I get to stay home with my girls while he works (sort of like a part-time stay at home mom type thing). I also have a "side gig" where I make cakes from home called, Buttercream Baby Cakes.
Another big part of my life is supporting "small shops". You know, the tiny, often run from home companies that make gorgeous, high quality, unique items, they're the best. I mainly purchase Canadian small shop clothing & accessories for my girls & sometimes myself, but I also like to keep an eye out for anything else I plan to buy in small shop land before I hit up a big store. Yes, buying handmade is not the cheapest option, but it's definitely better quality, beautiful & unique, ethically better & much of the clothing lasts 3 times longer than the cheap store stuff so I feel it balances itself out.
Back to that "side gig" I mentioned before; cakes. I was in the Fine Arts program in university, but had no idea where I wanted to go with that. I knew I still wanted to do something artsy/creative , & it took me a while but I eventually stumbled upon baking & cake decorating. Years, & many cakes later, I like to think I've found my groove making small cakes for intimate sized gatherings. My favourite cakes to make are for first birthdays. I love to know my cakes are being enjoyed by adorable tiny humans , often as their first cake ever, & also being part of such a milestone moment. I recently have started to branch out & make decorated sugar cookies as well. Cookies are definitely more of a challenge, & more time consuming, but so much fun from an artsy perspective.
Well I hope you will pop in from time to time to check in on my blog journey, & I'd love to hear from you too! Feel free to comment below or message me if you feel like a chat (let's be honest, all of us moms need some more friends to chat with :p )
